Serenity Minds Uganda Brings Mental Health Care to Ndejje, Wakiso District.
Serenity Minds Uganda held a mental health outreach in Ndejje, Wakiso District, in partnership with St. Mary Queen of Martyrs Ndejje Catholic Parish and Camp. The camp focused on mental health awareness, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders within the community.
Mental health remains a quiet struggle for many families in Uganda. Stigma keeps people from speaking up. Distance and cost keep them from care. Serenity Minds Uganda set out to close that gap for the people of Ndejje that day.
Our team of mental health professionals arrived at St. Mary Queen of Martyrs Ndejje Catholic Parish and Camp and set up a full-service outreach. Residents gathered from early morning, filling the benches and pews as our staff addressed the group directly.
The outreach covered four main areas that day.
Awareness: Our team spoke openly about mental health, what it looks like, and why it matters. Community members learned to recognise signs of distress in themselves and their loved ones.
Assessment: Trained staff screened attendees for common mental health conditions. Each person received individual attention and a clear explanation of their results.
Diagnosis: Where needed, our clinicians provided accurate diagnoses, guiding patients toward an accurate understanding of their condition rather than guesswork or silence.
Treatment: Patients received medication and guidance on their treatment path. Our team distributed medication on-site and explained how to use it correctly.
Local leaders attended the session and stood behind the effort. Their presence sent a clear message to the community. Mental health care mattered, and it belonged in Ndejje.
Throughout the day, our team met one on one with residents, answered questions, and offered support without judgment. Many attendees spoke about mental health for the first time in a public setting. That shift mattered. It moved the community from silence to support.
Serenity Minds Uganda exists to make mental health care reachable for every Ugandan, regardless of location or income. The Ndejje outreach adds to a growing record of camps across Wakiso District and beyond.
We plan to return to Ndejje and expand this work to more communities across Uganda. Mental health care should not be a privilege. It should be a right, available to every person, everywhere.
